It’s Not the Timeline of the Journey

God’s GPS holds the coordinates and final destination to your personal journey. Remember when we were kids, traveling in the car with our families, it would be just a matter of time before we asked “Are we there yet?” It may have only been 5 minutes into the journey when this question started. This would continue throughout the travel until we were either satisfied with the answer, finally arrived to the destination, or were in fear of the consequences of asking it just one more time. Why were we asking this question anyway? And why were we doing so this early on in the journey? Why did we keep asking it? Why was “Not yet” or whatever rhetoric that came from our driver insufficient?
No matter our age, the infamous question of “Are we there yet?” ranks top with: Where are we going? Why are we going? How long will it take to get there? How long will we be there? Then, as life packs more into the baggage we carry, questions continue: How did I get here? Why am I here? How long will I be here? When does this end? Why does this hurt? Why am I crying? Will there be anything better for me? If so, when will I get there? Why do I keep going around this mountain?
Depending on the season of life & terrain of the path, the journey may take longer than we would appreciate. This is where we trust our driver. As children we were never in fear of the ability of our driver to get us to the destination. We trusted that all would be well all along the way. The question of “Are we there yet?” came about out of sheer eager anticipation for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. As a child of God, we can trust our Heavenly Father to bring us to our journey’s end. It may not be the most direct or efficient route, however- we know that his time of arrival is always perfect.
Having to go around the mountain yet again can be exhausting and frustrating. Missing the exit brings about negative sentiments. Challenge yourself to adjust your paradigm. View the journey through the eyes of a child, trusting your Father God’s GPS. Know your arrival time will be excellent. And when life says you’re “rerouting”; embrace this time… release the need to control the route. Let go of the white knuckles from the steering wheel, get in the passenger’s seat, relax, and trust your driver.
What would it look like if you were able to appreciate the journey? And when things don’t go quite as planned, or the journey seems longer than expected, what would it look like if you took a moment to switch gears, abide in the opportunity to travel the path again? What if you could see that being rerouted isn’t always a bad thing? Perhaps there’s something God wants you to see along the way.
It’s not the timeline of the journey….. it’s what happens along the way.
