Waking up this morning, I found that I was just as tired as I was when I went to bed the night before.
As I sit before the Lord, with tears streaming down my eyes, I ask why am I crying? Have you ever been so tired that all you can do is cry? I apologized to him and I heard him say “I know that you’re not having a pity party and I know the tears that you have are for different reasons.” I confessed to the Lord that I’m worn out and I don’t understand why. He disclaimed the same was true for the Warriors who returned from battle. When they returned they were exhausted and weary. It was time for them to get rest, eat, and become refreshed. We are the same; we have daily battles (mentally, physically, and spiritually) that make us tired & weary, and in need of being refreshed and restored.
As followers of Christ it is essential to understand that spiritual self-care is as important as physical self-care. We are created as mind body and spirit. We sleep and eat to take care of our physical body. We read and listen to learn and grow our soul. Our spirit also needs self-care.
Just as the disciples worked hard and played hard, they also took time to rest and get filled back up each day. In this world, we spend a great amount of time working and not so much resting. God wants to speak to us at all times & about everything. Today I asked him why am I so tired? He said because you have been spending quite a bit of time learning and listening to what is happening in the world and in my church. What I need for you to do today is to take time to do self-care instead. relax in the spirit and get refreshed.
John laid on Jesus as he ate and enjoyed the supper. God asks us also to lay on him as we eat of the fruit of his spiritual joy in order to get refreshed. It’s important to read, listen, and learn so that we are up to date on the occurrences of the world. However, it’s just as important to quiet ourselves so that our spirit man has self care through singing, worshiping, and praising our King.
We can ask God any question and he will reveal the answer to us. He will share with us what he needs us to do each and every day. Just as it states in this passage, it’s a good way to get started in the conversation by asking God what his purpose and plan is for this day. He knows everything we need. He has it all assigned for us. Sometimes he needs us to get to work and sometimes he needs us to rest.
